Has God been using his enemies for a greater purpose?

The Providence of God in history is one of the most profound subjects. It is yet to be seen of course what Trump may actually do in his second term as President, but there is a real possibility of profound reform that will bring America at least somewhat back to less centralization of Federal power and less encroachment of individual rights by the state as the Founders of our Republic intended.

The workings of Providence are amazing. And who and what God uses is baffling at times. In my opinion, Trump is likely to bring very different public policy this time than he would have to the presidency if he had not lost in 2020 and if lawfare and assassination-attempts had not happened.

In a previous post of mine immediately after Trump’s survival of the bullet that pierced his ear ( ) I spoke of God’s providence in similar situations in the life of Reagan, Thatcher and the Pope that led them (in almost religious devotion to be faithful to use the extra time given them) to become an indefatigable team that defeated the Soviet Empire.

I want now to look at political and legal events other than threats to his life, that have shaped Trump in a significant way. And it was radical Democrats that we must recognize that God used for this.

First was the Russia Collusion hoax immediately in his first term. It was through corrupt individuals in the FBI and the CIA. It led to a special counsel that of course led to no charges (because we now know there was nothing to begin with), but it was used anyway by the Democrats to bring an impeachment charge (which again resulted in nothing when it was tried in the Senate). But Trump as a danger to democracy became a theme.

Then the Charlottesville “good people” hoax after the race riots. It was always evident that Trump never said what the legacy media and Joe Biden said Trump said. I knew the truth because, living in Charlottesville, it was very important for me to know the facts. But the media again deliberately helped the hoax to live on and Trump as a racist became the theme.

Then as Speaker of the House sitting in full view directly behind the President as he gave his State of the Union speech, Nancy Pelosi ripped the printed speech in half in shocking violation of Congressional decorum. This was followed by snubs by the usual winners of major sporting events who normally go to the White House. Trump as unworthy of official respect became the theme.

Then as the campaign for the 2020 election came closer, the social media powers began to censor Trump, banning him from Twitter (before Musk bought it) and Facebook, etc, denying a sitting President freedom to speak (legacy media already denying him access). We now know that once Biden became president that it was the Biden government itself continuing to pressure the social media to censor Trump. The rationale was that Trump was a bad man who spread hate and lies and thus the theme emerged that he was unworthy of free speech.

Then came the Covid19 pandemic and actors (Fauci, et al) within the various agencies advised him to take steps that we now know they knew were baseless, and they lied about it and hid the truth, and this destroyed the economy. More importantly, it laid the foundation for states that Democrats controlled, to change the rules for how people could vote and that allowed for cheating and fraud and ballot harvesting that led to Trump’s “defeat” in the 2020 election. It was without question extremely suspect that Republicans won almost every thing else on the ballot and all but one bellwether county, and for Trump to question the results was actually very logical. But the legacy media and social media condemned him for such questions (even though Democrats had done the same in 2016, etc), and thus the theme of him not accepting democratic norms of election results became set.

And when some of his followers, in defiance of Trump’s own words to not be violent, protested on January 6, 2021, and Pelosi and the Mayor of DC, rejected Trump’s own request for extra security for the Capitol, the legacy and social media again twisted the story into an “insurrection” (even though much more destruction of federal buildings and violence was done by Black Lives Matter and Antifa in the previous years with little legal repercussions). Although now there is clear evidence of Biden’s governments planting agents in the crowd that also entered the Capitol; and that some security freely opened doors and watched while protestors peacefully walked down the corridors. But this was hidden by the J6 Committee which itself was formed in violation of all norms to have both parties represented. It led to another impeachment hearing but again no conviction. But the theme of Trump as election denier and a threat to “democracy” was set.

Then, during Biden’s presidency came the four different legal prosecutions against Trump, with the completely unnecessary surprise search of Trump’s home by the FBI. Of course, Biden had classified documents improperly kept at his home, as did Obama and Hilary and others in previous administrations but all were only slapped on the wrist for it. The lawfare created another theme that Trump was a criminal and dangerous to democracy.

Finally, as the election campaign of 2024 moved toward the finish the Democrat’s strategy, in collusion with the legacy media, was again promoting a theme that Trump was dangerous to “democracy” and literally a fascist and Hitler-like leader. So radicals tried assassinating him. Democrats were not responsible for the attack, but eventually ramped up Hitler-Fascist-Danger rhetoric again before the election.

But enough of the general public saw through the unfairness of all these things, and so Trump won with a strong showing of electoral majorities, every swing state, and even the popular vote. And he was almost even among Latinos, and greatly increased his percentage of African-American votes.

The attacks failed to stop him.

But that is not the most important thing. The attacks made him understand what needed to be done to change things in America. And the general public agrees with him that there is clear corruption at the highest levels of many federal departments. So Trump appears to now be intent on truly reforming American government (at least his nominees seem to suggest that intent). If the democrats in Congress, and radical elements in the spy and law enforcement agencies, and in politicized prosecutor’s offices, and the leftist crazies that tried to assassinate him, had not done all of those things, it is very likely that the people Trump is now choosing for his government would have been different. They would not have been chosen from the most reform-minded crowds.

The opponents overplayed their hand and they have made Trump into what he seems about to be – the most reformer-oriented president since FDR (but to reduce government instead of enlarge it). Trump may now put the federal government on a more conservative and libertarian path of reduction that was never accomplished by Reagan or any of the conservative leaders before. It was always verbally expressed in previous administrations but there was never the political will to do the hard things to be successful.

The Providence of God has seemed to let evil triumph just enough to show the world the ugliness and craziness of the philosophies and policies of many political leaders and movements that have been ascendant in American and global politics. But it actually did the reverse. It created the new Trump and his rising uncompromising band of reformers.

Again, it still has yet to happen. But in my opinion, the Trump that entered the Republican primaries in 2016 and who most Christian conservatives did NOT support throughout most of the primary battles, was not the Trump we have today. I did not support him at the beginning. I voted for him in 2016 in a belief that he would be better than Hillary Clinton, but I was skeptical.

Then he proved in his first term to make policy decisions that were some of the best since Reagan. Sure, he still had rough edges and perhaps was still quite narcissistic, perhaps never intending to be a reformer in his second term if he had won in 2020. But his enemies changed him. God used his enemies. That is the mystery of God’s Providence in history and national affairs.

In the book of Esther, it was the schemes of Haman to harm Mordecai and the Jewish people that actually made Mordecai the influential leader that he otherwise would never have been. In 16th century England, had not “Bloody Mary” come to power and brutally persecuted the Protestants, they would never have fled to Geneva and learned more about reformation of every area of society, and then return later to England to lead a more thorough reformation under Elizabeth the First. And it was the later corruption of King James in his reign that led to the exodus of many Pilgrims and Puritans to the “new world” – there to build what became known eventually as the United States of America. Abraham Lincoln never intended to emancipate slaves when he ran for President, but the defeats in war led him to that decision.

A year ago I would not have thought it good to have RFK, jr, or Tulsi Gabbard or Elon Musk or other former Democrats and liberals in the Cabinet of President Trump. It would not even been considered possible. It is something strange that has been happening. It may not be good in the end, but perhaps God will use them despite their original plans.

God perhaps is giving America an opportunity to reclaim some of it’s Founders ideals and to turn away from socialism and corrupt DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion) and gender ideology and other dangerous philosophies. I, for one, am hopeful that perhaps at the 250th anniversary of America on July 4, 2026 we might be seeing a small cloud rising the size of a man’s hand on the horizon (1 Kings 18:44). If so, then also perhaps a rout of the false prophets is also immanent. Perhaps that “patriot’s dream” we sing of in the song America the Beautiful will gain its attractiveness once again.

All is extremely unlikely. Men fall short of their best intentions. Evil is still active. So prayer is needed for this next season more than ever.
